Laura, Textile Design Uni Student Work Placement
Having read an interesting email from Laura I decided it would be fun to offer her a placement. After four years I felt that Sweetpea & Betty could offer a multi-faceted work experience. I love the energy of young creative people and we pride ourselves on encouraging to bring this out in anyone that comes into our shop or does the workshops. I specialise in the chalk Paint TM techniques, Val is an artist who develops ideas and creativity with Chalk Paint TM and Hayley a Textile Designer, works with the fabric and Chalk Paint TM particularly lampshades and soft furnishings. So together we offer a varied package.
So Laura’s introductory email was just the beginning:
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a second year Textiles Ba (Hons) Student at Cardiff School of Art & Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University.
I am extremely fond of the workshops you do and the beautiful interiors you re-vamp to sell.I have been impressed with the work displayed on your website, in particular the Annie Sloan chalk paint workshops you do, something I’ve not tried myself and would love to do. I’m from Cornwall and believe I’ve visited your shop previously but was unaware of what you had to offer.
As part of my course I have chosen to spend 4 weeks on work experience to gain an insight into the commercial world to help with career planning and exit strategies. I am emailing to ask if you offer placement opportunities for students.
The dates of the placement would be between 17th November –12th December 2014, I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks in anticipation
As Laura’s placement coincided with Annie Sloan’s latest Book “Room Recipes for Style & Colour” I suggested Laura chose three different styles from the book to produce three different lampstands and shades.
See Laura’s Blog lauramartin2013 for details of her placement with us.
We think her projects are excellent, demonstrating many different techniques she has learnt during her placement. It’s been a pleasure to have you here, thank you Laura, keep in touch x
